The following images of Serb-run concentration camps near Prijedor in north-west Bosnia were taken from the archive of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) at the Hague.

The Manjaca concentration camp was controlled by a Serb Lieutenant Colonel Bozidar Popovic.

BBC TV crew speaks with emaciated Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) man in the Trnopolje concentration camp. Serb authorities allowed TV crew to enter the camp after international pressure mounted. Badly emaciated prisoners were removed from the camp, but Dr. Idriz Merdzanic managed to smuggle some photos of brutal beatings and abuse in the camp, which we will show beginning from the next photo.

Serbs Admit Mass Execution of Bosniak Civilians

Banja Luka, Bosnia-Herzegovina — A top police official in a Serb-controlled area of Bosnia has confirmed the Aug. 21 killing of dozens of Bosniak men and boys being taken by bus from the Serb-run Trnopolje concentration camp to promised safety in the Muslim-held city of Travnik.

“A certain number of the people who were heading for Travnik lost their lives that day,” Stojan Zupljanin, chief of security services here, said on Friday.

Zupljanin, a Serb who commands the 6,000-square-mile area that includes the steep canyon where the mass execution occurred, said “about 50 or more bodies” had been found. “I have information that there are [still] some corpses in that area,” he said, adding that the mountainous terrain in that area was slowing the investigation.

SARAJEVO, Thurs. (Reuters) — Bosnia published figures today showing that six months of war produced a “massacre of the innocents” far worse than suspected.

Ten thousand children were listed as dead or missing by the Medical Crisis Centre which compiles statistics from across the former Yugoslav republic where Bosnian Serbs are fighting against Muslim [Bosniak] and Croat-led independence.

The figures showed a steep rise since last month to 14,364 killed and 57,000 missing, of whom many are also believed dead.
